Starting therapy often brings questions. Below you'll find information about appointments, fees and what you can expect. If your question isn't answered here, you're always welcome to get in touch.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another.

We'll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from our work together, and any questions you have about the therapy process.

There is no expectation that you tell your whole story during our first appointment. We begin where you are and move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

How long are appointments?

Appointments are 50 minutes.

This allows time to settle into our conversation without feeling rushed.

How often will we meet?

I find weekly appointments to be most effective, particularly at the beginning of therapy. There is the possibility to meet fortnightly, or less frequently.

Together, we can discuss what feels most supportive for your needs and circumstances.

Do you offer online appointments?

Yes.

I offer both in-person and online psychotherapy.

Online sessions are held through a secure video platform and can be a helpful option if travelling is difficult or you prefer the flexibility of meeting from home.

Session Fees and Payment

I offer a sliding-scale payment, which can be discussed and finalised before your first appointment.

Support with session fees through MSD can also be applied for.

Payment is requested on the day of your appointment by bank transfer.

Is therapy confidential?

Everything discussed in therapy is treated with care and confidentiality in accordance with the Privacy Act 202, the Health Information Privacy Code, and professional ethical standards.

There are a small number of situations whre I may be legally or ethically required to share information, such as where there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else. We will discuss these limits together before therapy begins.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

Many people feel this way before beginning therapy.

You don't need to prepare or have the right words.

Sometimes the first session begins simply with "I'm not really sure where to start".

That's completely ok, we'll begin together.
